  8. What is foamcore?
Foamcore or Foamboard is a very strong, lightweight and easily cut material useful for backing, mounting photographic prints, framing, 3D design and painting. It consists of three layers - an inner layer of polystyrene clad, with outer facing of paper.

Our Choices available are: Foamcore, Acid Free Foamcore, Black Foamcore, and Corrugated Plastic.

Our Standard White Foamcore is non-acidic. Suggested use is for artwork expected to be framed for up to 50 years and valued less than $100.00. Available in sizes up to 42x62.

Acid Free Foamcore is buffered with an Alkaline chemical which helps to combat the acids found in most posters or prints. Suggested use is for artwork expected to be framed for upwards of 100 years and valued over $100.00. Available in sizes up to 30x42.

Black Foamcore is both Black on the outside and has a Black inner core. Black Foam board is typically used when framing Matted Records, Shadow Boxes or when the back of the frame must be Black. Available in sizes up to 30x42.

Corrugated Plastic is a fluted plastic material used when moisture, constant humidity, or temperature changes are a concern. Available in sizes up to 42x62.

  9. What is a lens cover?
Lens covers take the place of, and give the same look as glass or acrylic when framing.

Framers Brand™ Enhanced UV filtering protective Lens Covers (Glazing) are available in both UV Clear and UV Non-Glare (Matte) finishes. The covers are of Optical Grade, Lightweight, Virtually Unbreakable, have UV Protection and do not require special cleaners.

Heavy Breakable Glass and Acrylic do not even compare to this new innovative product.

The product can be cleaned with ordinary plastic cleaner, and light scratches can often be removed by carefully using a hair dryer.) Our UV Clear covers are just that...Clear.

Our UV Non-Glare Lens Covers help to dramatically reduce the amount of reflection, sunlight, or overhead lighting that can be seen when looking at your frame. Additional advantages are that Non-Glare is also less likely to show any dust or scratches.

A typical disadvantage to Non-Glare, is that the depth of color and image quality is reduced by an estimated 5%. Consideration to where the frame will be placed should be given, when weighing out the benefits or drawbacks of upgrading to a Non-Glare Lens Cover when ordering.

Additional less expensive Glazing such as Clear Acrylic and both Clear and Non-Glare Styrene are also available in stock to bulk commercial customers. (email inquiries only)

*Please note: Both a Lens Cover and Backing are required to properly use our type of frame.
